6-Week Short Course in Mindful Self-Compassion Online
Most of us feel compassion for our close friends as they go through the peaks and troughs in their lives. Life is not easy and meeting challenges is an essential part of it, yet we are often unnecessarily hard on ourselves. What would it be like to receive that same warmth and attention from yourself when you needed it most?
A shift in your attention enables you to recognise that you too, are an equally worthy recipient of compassion. Self-compassion involves the capacity to motivate ourselves with encouragement as well as to comfort and soothe ourselves when we fail, are hurting or feel like we aren’t good enough.
Self-compassion is a resource that can be learnt by connecting with the innate care and concern that we have for others and including ourselves in the circle of beneficiaries of our own compassion.
The Mindful Self Compassion programme introduces you to an extensive toolbox of practices and exercises to meet life from a place of resourcefulness and strength, even when you encounter challenges along your way. Practicing self-compassion also helps us to expand and sustain our compassion for others.
The Short Course Adaptation
Join us for the Short Course in Mindful Self-Compassion course online – via Zoom – over 75 Minutes per week on a Monday evening for 6 weeks from April 2021.
The Short Course draws on the practice of mindfulness and focuses on developing the resource of self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional well-being. This format is an adaptation of the 8-week course that has been developed to give participants the opportunity to learn a selected set of MSC practices with less initial time commitment than the full 26-hour programme.
Learning Mindful Self-compassion Online
The intention of this offering is to bring MSC to you, wherever you are right now in a way that is safe for you and yours. Most of us have experienced working online in recent times and as much as it can be challenging, it is also a means to connect in a heartfelt way.
Everyone is welcome! The course is designed for members of the general public, based on the values of equity, diversity, inclusiveness and belonging. Please note that the number of spaces are limited.
Course Dates and Times
The course begins on 12th April 2021 and finishes on 17th May 2021 with a break half-way through the course on 15th February 2021.
We will meet on Monday evenings between 8:00 - 9:15pm CEST which is 7:00 - 8:15pm GMT+1, 2:00 – 3.15pm EDT and 11:00am – 12:15pm PDT. We would love to have people from across the globe come together to develop their skills in Mindful Self-compassion together.
€ 147, -
In addition to the 6 live sessions, the fee also includes an electronic participant handout booklet. After completion of the Short Course, you are entitled to a €50 fee reduction, should you go on to register for a full 8-week MSC programme online in 2021.
We would also like to make this course available to those in need who have limited funds. One full scholarship is offered for every ten participants. To apply, please send an email to discuss your circumstances with us. For those who can afford to, please consider contributing to a fund for additional scholarships for those in need.
I am a Learning & Development Consultant and Trainer, systemic Counsellor and non-medical Practitioner for Psychotherapy. In a period of great change in 2015, I was drawn to Mindful Self-compassion as a readily available source of internal comfort and strength. Participating in an 8-week course in MSC supported me in establishing my daily practice. In June 2020 I gained my Trained MSC Teacher status with the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion, having attended Teacher Training with ‘Arbor Seminare’ in Austria in October 2018. I am a dual citizen of the UK and Germany and have lived in Germany, USA and Singapore since leaving the UK 19 years ago.
I am a facilitator at University College Dublin’s business schools in Ireland with a background in psychology and management. My university modules focus on the development of soft skills through direct experience of a range of science-based practices and reflections. My passion to explore techniques which positively affect mental and physical health comes from my own experience of pain, grief and the challenges associated with caring for my mother who suffered from Parkinson’s and Dementia. In addition to working at the university I facilitate contemplative practices. I completed certification in Mindful Self-Compassion in 2016 through UC San Diego (USA) under the guidance of Michelle Becker.
Prior experience of mindfulness and meditation is helpful but not necessary.
As part of registration, you will be asked to complete a form with background information and to have a short discussion with one of the course facilitators. This self-reflection supports both you and the facilitators to evaluate whether our MSC course in this format would be helpful to you at this time.
Participants with a mental health condition, particularly if they are experiencing acute symptoms or are currently undergoing treatment for a mental health condition (psychotherapy, pharmaceutical medication) are requested to discuss attending the course with their doctor, psychiatrist, or psychotherapist / counsellor as well as with the course facilitators.
Waiver of Liability
Participation in this course is voluntary at the risk of each individual participant. Attending this course is not a substitute for necessary medical or psychotherapeutic treatment. The course facilitators do not accept any liability for personal injury or property damage caused by participating in this course.
